Global Economic Opportunity Circle Meeting San Francisco Foundation, 225 Bush Street, San Francisco, CA 94104
This meeting is open to members and those interested in membership. |
Full Circle Fund's Global Economic Opportunity Circle's goal is to support and strengthen channels for economic opportunity and empowerment, both locally in the Bay Area and internationally. We seek ideas, organizations, and leaders that are innovative, scale-able, and ready to benefit from the engaged philanthropic support of Full Circle Fund.
Agenda (subject to change):
6:30 Networking/Dinner
7:00 Welcome, Introductions, announcements
7:20 Discussion with Jim Fruchterman
9:00 Meeting Wrap-up
Special guest Jim Fruchterman, Founder and CEO of Benetech will be joining us. A technology entrepreneur, Jim Fruchterman has founded two of the foremost optical character recognition companies: Calera Recognition Systems, which developed character recognition that allowed computers to read virtually all printed text, and Arkenstone, a nonprofit social enterprise to produce reading machines for the disabled community based on the Calera technology. Following the sale of the Arkenstone product line in 2000, Jim used all the resulting capital to fund Benetech, with an explicit goal of using the power of technology to serve humanity. Jim has also been active in public service, with two stints on U.S. federal advisory committees. He believes that technology is the ultimate leveler, allowing disadvantaged people to achieve more equality in society.
We look forward to seeing you there! Thank you to the San Francisco Foundation and Tanya Marston for hosting us at their offices.
